Relatives of missing people hold an action in Chechnya

On July 8, on the Family Day, relatives of missing people held an action in Grozny near the monument to perished journalists. The action was organized by the regional public organization "Search of Missing Persons".

Tamara Kagirova, leader of the NGO, like other mothers, for many years is searching her son, who had been taken away from home at night in an armoured troop-carrier (ATC). There are several thousands of such mothers in the republic, as Natalia Estemirova, employee of the HRC "Memorial", told the "Caucasian Knot".

The participants of the action held photos of their kidnapped relatives, most of whom had been kidnapped by militaries and power agents, and posters demanding establishing their whereabouts and punishing those guilty.

The overall objective of the action was signing-in of the petition made by Nurdi Nukhazhiev, Ombudsman in the Chechen Republic, to President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Medvedev, where the Ombudsman asks to set up a special interdepartmental commission for establishing the whereabouts of those kidnapped in the territory of Chechnya in the course of counterterrorist operations.
