Sentence to contract soldier from Stavropol Territory for evading service upheld

The appellate instance has upheld the sentence of Arkady Tomilov, a contract serviceman from the Stavropol Territory, who was sentenced to six years in penal colony for leaving his military unit without permission.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the legislation tightening after the announcement of mobilization led to more severe sentences pronounced for absence from one's military unit or desertion, human rights defenders have stated.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has upheld the sentence of Arkady Tomilov, convicted to six years in colony. According to the verdict, he had served under contract since April 2022, and on February 10, 2023, "willing to take a break from his military duties, during the period of mobilization, failed to appear on time at his military unit without any valid reason."

On December 12, 2023, Tomilov himself arrived at the military investigation division of the Stavropol military garrison.
