Militant's son Maskhud Abdullaev leaves Chechnya for Azerbaijan, and then - for a third country

Maskhud Abdullaev, son of one of the leaders of Chechen militants Supyana Abdullaev, who has the status of a UN refugee, has managed to get over from Chechnya to Azerbaijan, and therefrom - immediately to a third country. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told today about it by a representative of Chechen refugees who referred to Maskhud Abdullaev's relatives.

"Immediately after arrival in Azerbaijan, Maskhud left for a third country for safety reasons," said the source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We understand that Azerbaijan has a lot of its own problems; therefore, we don't want to make additional problems," said the source without specifying the country of Maskhud's destination.

"According to our data, Maskhud Abdullaev was indeed in the territory of Azerbaijan. But representatives of our mission did not participate in his reception upon arrival in Azerbaijan," said Nailya Shakhbazova, press secretary of the Baku office of the UN High Commissariat for Refugees.

Svetlana Gannushkina, Chair of the Committee of Civil Assistance asks journalists, who cover Maskhud Abdullaev's life, not to try to contact him.

"Now, everyone wants to know how he got from Moscow to Chechnya. It's clear, if he starts speaking, it may cause problems," said Ms Gannushkina.

According to her story, she had wished to see Maskhud Abdullaev together with his relatives. On Wednesday, July 22, his mother could meet her son. "I find this story over," she has concluded.
