Makhachkala residents protest against electricity cut-offs

For three hours on September 21 residents of Makhachkala blocked the highway in protest against electric power cut-off, as a source in law enforcement bodies has reported today. The protesters demanded to restart electricity supply, which failed after an accident at the power plant caused by pouring rains.

"In the Kirov District of Makhachkala, at No. 96 in the Akushinskiy Avenue, about 200 local residents, mainly women, blocked traffic in one of the lanes of the carriageway for three hours," the source told the "Interfax".

The "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports that after the meeting with the heads of district administration and city UVD (Interior Department), the protesters dispersed; in total, 12 militiamen supervised the order in the course of the protest event.
