Azerbaijan: court rejects complaint of woman accused of beating 4 men

On November 10, the Baku Appeal Court, presided by Judge Gail Mamedov, considered the appeal complaint lodged by Sayara Geidarova, convicted for beating of 4 men.

As Ms Geidarova herself said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the judicial panel chaired by Mamedov upheld the verdict of the first instance.

"It wasn't a trial, it was a farce. The Appeal Court, at last, after my complaint to the Supreme Court, interrogated the victim Yashar Askerov, who was not summoned to the trial in the Surakhan Court. This person, who is figuring in the case as a tractor operator, said that I had allegedly beaten him. But on the day of the incident he was not at all in our yard. Moreover, in the case materials the tractor model was indicated as 'AK', but such model does not exist at all," said Ms Geidarova.

She also said that later Askerov was convicted to imprisonment for robbery; and he was delivered to the Appeal Court from Colony No. 12.

Since the working day was over, no comments from the court could be obtained.

Sayara Geidarova is dissatisfied with the decision of the Appeal Court and plans to go on hunger strike again demanding restoration of her rights.
