Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh to raise money for restoration of Shusha

On November 26, in Los Angeles, under the initiative of the All-Armenian Foundation "Ayastan" another charitable telethon event will be held. The funds raised in the course of it will go to restoration and development of the city of Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh. Residents of Nagorno-Karabakh will also traditionally take part in the action.

Nagorno-Karabakh has already launched fundraising under the forthcoming telethon. For running the process efficiently, the Karabakh government has set up a republic's headquarters headed by vice-premier, Minister of Finance Spartak Tevosyan.

The delegation headed by Prime Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Ara Aratyunyan will be in the USA on November 18-26, taking part in the annual telethon. This is stated in the messaged published by the website of the government of the republic.

The fundraising telethon for Karabakh is held in the USA not for the first year. Thus, the event held on November 27, 2008, in Los Angeles organized by the All-Armenian Foundation "Armenia", raised 35 million dollars. During the telethon, held in November 2007, 15.28 million US dollars was raised. In 2006, the event lasted for 12 hours and brought 13.7 million US dollars on restoration of Nagorno-Karabakh districts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported with reference to Sergey Shakhverdyan, head of the department for tourism at the government of Nagorno-Karabakh, within the last 10 years, 4 monuments, including the Persian Mosque in Shusha, were restored and saved from destruction in the republic for the state and private money.
