Film about Anna Politkovskaya presented in France

On November 18, a documentary "Letter to Anna", dedicated to journalist Anna Politkovskaya, made on the basis of conversations of director Eric Bergkraut with Politkovskaya in 2003-2004, was presented.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that the observer of the "Novaya Gazeta" Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead on October 7, 2006, in Moscow.

"I didn't want to plunge into sad memoirs; I just wanted to show, what energy was irradiated by this woman. Anna was a symbol, she defended our important values, and she had enough courage to go to the end. This film is about courage and about Putin's Russia," Eric Bergkraut said at the presentation of his film.

It was also noted at the presentation that the "Letter to Anna" is more likely a tribute of memory to all who fight for the freedom of speech in Russia, rather than a "report on ideological battles," writes the edition called "Elle".

Meanwhile, during the presentation of the film Rebekka Harms, leader of the "green" faction in the European Parliament, scarified the situation with human rights in Russia. In the opinion of the European MP, the death of Politkovskaya had imposed special obligations on Russia in this sphere.

In her turn, Karina Moskalenko, advocate for Politkovskaya's family, criticized the violations admitted at the litigation on the journalist's murder case. According to her story, the evidencing witnesses are exposed to intimidation and persecutions. She also mentioned the non-professionalism of the prosecution party, as reported by the DW-WORLD.DE.
