Ioffe: memorial boulder in place of Jews' massacre in Volgograd desecrated

Vandals continue desecrating the memorial boulder installed in the place of mass executions of Jews by fascists. This statement was made by Ms Yael Ioffe, leader of the Jewish community of Volgograd, in her welcoming speech at the opening of the information-methodical seminar "Efficient Counteraction to Extremism and Xenophobia".

"For our city, any desecration of tombs and monuments to people who perished in the Great Patriotic War is an act of special cynicism," said Ms Ioffe. "Recently, we've again detected traces of vandalism on the memorial boulder in the place of future monument to victims of the Holocaust."

According to her story, in that place in 1942-43 fascist occupants shot dead more than 600 Jews and many war captives and other peaceful nationals from Stalingrad. In total, over 2500 victims of fascism were buried in the mass grave located in the Eighth of March Mini-Park.

"For the first time they tried to cut out the word 'Jews' inscribed on the boulder with some sharp item in January 2008," said the leader of the Volgograd Jewish community.

Then, the community members addressed the militia and prosecutor's office, but no culprits were found.
