Militiaman puts a pistol to his head in Chechnya

A Chechen militiaman has fatally wounded himself from his service pistol. The Chechen MIA finds the suicide version unrealistic.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by law enforcers that "yesterday in the village of Dzhalka, Gudermes District, in his off-duty time, while in the house of his friend, an employee of the republic's MIA fatally wounded himself in careless handling of his service Makarov pistol."

A MIA spokesman said that a service check is underway on the fact. He rejected a suicide and suggested an accident and careless firearms handling.

Meanwhile, it is already the second incident with law enforcers in Chechnya within the latest 24 hours.

Today, it has also become known that in the district capital Nozhai-Yurt on January 31 a militiaman occasionally shot his colleague dead. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it at the Chechen MIA.

A criminal case was initiated against the occasional killer under part 2, Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by imprudence"), which assumes up to three years of imprisonment.

Let us note here that the Chechen militiaman who killed his colleague may face a threat of blood feud from the relatives of his victim, especially if they believe that it was a deliberate murder.
