Moscow is concerned about demolition of WWII Memorial

Moscow is worried with another "fact of disrespect by the authorities of Georgia of the memory of soldiers who perished in the Great Patriotic War." This was stated by Andrei Nesterenko, official spokesman of the Russian of Foreign Affairs.

The statement was caused by the fact that on January 27 in Dioknisi village in Adzharia, under the initiative of local authorities, the monument in honour of the soldiers who perished in the Great Patriotic War was dismantled.

"We've learnt about it with great concern," the IA "New Region" quotes Mr Nesterenko as saying.

"The most objective estimate will be probably made by still alive participants of those heavy years, of those fights, where they took part. I mean citizens of Georgia and relatives of the casualties of that war," the RBC quotes the spokesman of the Russian Foreign Office.

"After blowing up the Memorial of Glory in Kutaisi, local bosses started exhibiting initiative to please President Mikhail Saakashvili," said Peter Mamradze, secretary general of the party named "Movements for Fair Georgia".
