Volgograd regional authorities start paying out compensations to fire victims

Today, the residents of the Volgograd Region, who suffered from fires, began receiving lump sum material aid at the rate of up to 10,000 roubles per person, but no more than 50,000 per family, Anatoly Brovko, local governor, said at the today's press conference.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 2 the Volgograd Region was covered by an atmospheric front with a strong wind and dusty storms at the air temperature of almost plus 40 degrees Centigrade. The region suffered from over 70 landscape fire centres, which captured dwelling settlements. By the latest data, the fire destroyed 531 structures, including 419 dwelling houses. About a thousand persons remained without roof over head. Eight persons perished in fires and 28 more were injured.

As stated by the website of the administration of the Volgograd Region, compensations to fire victims are paid out from the regional reserve fund.

10 million roubles have been already transferred to the municipal areas damaged by last week's fires. 100 million roubles more will be sent to fire victims to compensate their lost property, at the rate of 100,000 roubles per victim.

Besides, through the regional department of social care the victims will also receive over 8 million roubles from the budget of the Volgograd Region. Sums to be paid will be defined for each category of victims individually in accordance with the legislation.

Apart from the regional funds, the federal budget will allocate 900 million roubles to the region as grants aimed to liquidate the consequences of natural fires. The respective order to this end was earlier signed by Premier Vladimir Putin.

The Ministry for Regional Development had assured that new houses for fire victims should be finished before December 1.
