Militiamen failed to try to save Imam wounded in Ingushetia, eyewitnesses say

Those, who saw the attempt on the well-known Ingush Imam Khamzat Chumakov, refute the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ingushetia that law enforcers had done everything to save the churchman.

Let us remind you that Khamzat Chumakov was wounded on September 14 at about 8:40 a.m., when a self-made bomb blew up under his car in Nazran in the area of Ekazhevo Circle.

On the day of the attempt, the MIA of Ingushetia placed s statement on its website saying that Chumakov's life was saved by militiamen, who were first to arrive to the place of the explosion. According to the Ministry, militiamen were "in the place of the incident in two-three minutes," "stopped bleeding with a rubber plait and used the first car to send Khamzat Chumakov to hospital."

However, according to eyewitnesses of the incident, militiamen were just waiting after the explosion, not allowing anybody to approach the car and not trying to save him. The eyewitnesses told about it to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on conditions of anonymity.

"We saw with our own eyes that militiamen stood in a dense cordon letting nobody to Chumakov, who at that time was burning in his car. He was saved only owing to active interference of several young men, who broke through to Chumakov and pulled him out of the car. They saved his life," said one of the eyewitnesses, in whose opinion the version of law enforcers that militants had attempted on the Imam has no justification.

  • Lawyers doubt prospect of bills banning religious clothes

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
