Abkhazian public condemn attempt on Vice-President Alexander Ankvab
The political board of the political movement "Amtsakhara" of veterans of the 1992-1993 people's war of Abkhazia condemns the attempt on Vice-President Alexander Ankvab.
"Every time when the country sees changes in social-political life and conditions are set up for peace and creation, destructive forces try to overturn it," runs the today's statement of the "Amtsakhara".
The veterans' movement, which is supporting the country's authorities, believes that "the attempt on Alexander Ankvab was a long-planned action aimed at destabilization of the political situation in the country and stir up fear and opposition in the society."
"This attempt was a deed of enemies of the Abkhazian people and nothing else but an intention to remove one of the brightest and active politicians of the state from the political arena," runs the document.
The Party of Economic Development of Abkhazia (EDA Party), oppositional to the incumbent authorities, has also condemned the attempt on the vice-president.
The incident was sharply criticized by intellectuals and activists of the movement "Mothers of Abkhazia for Peace and Social Justice", who demanded from law enforcement bodies to investigate the crime and punish those guilty in the shortest possible time.
The place of the incident is examined by an operative-investigatory group, comprising employees of the General Prosecutor's Office, MIA, SSS (State Security Service) and headed by the first deputy public prosecutor Beslan Kvitsiniya.
"Many details of the attempt evidence that it was most probably a customized crime related to professional activities of the victim," Mr Kvitsiniya said.
