State of health of Azeri ministers accused of attempted coup d'etat deteriorates again

The military medical commission under the Ministry of National Security has completed its expert examination of Ali Insanov, ex-Minister of Health, accused by the authorities of attempted coup d'etat. The examination results show that Insanov suffers from hypertension and spinal hemia. According to the ex-minister lawyers, the military medical commission recommends outpatients treatment of the diseases. However, the defence does not agree because spinal hemia can not be treated at the outpatients department.

According to the examination conducted by the Munich diagnostics centre conducted in January 2005, Ali Insanov should be treated in hospital.

The lawyers intend to request another expert examination from the General Prosecutor's Office. "We think that the expert examination should involve a neurosurgeon and independent doctors," state the ex-minister lawyers.

The state of health of Farkhad Aliev, another ex-Minister of Economics, also accused of attempted coup d'etat, is not good either. Irada Dzhavadova, F. Aliev's lawyer, states that her defendant daily takes five kinds of medicine. According to the lawyer, F. Aliev still suffers from pain; his arterial pressure frequently fluctuates and can only be maintained by administered medicines.

The lawyer also states that her client is only allowed to read official newspapers and some neutral ones. The former minister is not allowed to listen to the radio.

For reference, Ali Insanov and Farkhad Aliev, ex-ministers of health and economics, were arrested in October 2005; they are accused of attempted coup d'etat.
