Moscow hosts action in memory of victims of Stalin's purges

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the memory action "Return of Names" of victims of 1937-1938 political repressions in Moscow was organized by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

Starting from 10 in the morning, people are coming to the Solovki Boulder in Lubyanka Square; they bring flowers and read out alphabetically the names, age and professions of the Muscovites who fell victim to terror. Many participants of the action also commemorate their relatives who perished on political reasons during the whole Soviet period, calling their names and telling about the circumstances of their death.

Both those whose relatives were murdered by Stalin's terror in the 1930s, and those, whose families were bypassed by it, are coming to commemorate the victims.

According to the tradition, the event was opened by Russian Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin. He gave a start to a sort of a relay by giving information about five Muscovites who perished in Stalin's purges.

The action was also attended by Mikhail Fedotov, head of the Human Rights Council under the Russian President, Garry Kasparov, the leader of the "Solidarity" Opposition United Democratic Movement, and Arseniy Roginskiy, chairman of the International Historical-Educational, Charitable and Human Rights Organization "Memorial".
