Public prosecutor's office denies detention of the organizers of "The Day of Anger" by militia in Rostov-on-Don

The reply of Public prosecutor's office of Kirov district on Rostov-on-Don the organizers of "The Day of Anger" received on December, 13, runs that militia did not detain the oppositionists before the meeting on September, 12, while representatives of Rostov oppositional movement "Left Front" state that they were not only illegally kept in the militia department but were also threatened and intimidated.

According to the organizers of September's "Day of Anger", activists of "Left Front" Vladislav Riazantsev and Oleg Prudnikov were detained on September, 12, yet before the beginning of the action sanctioned by the authorities and after it several tens more people were detained.

"I was released only after an hour and a half of threats of "rape in the isolation ward", "custody term in temporary detention facility", "play off with the Caucasians", without drawing up an official record", Riazantsev declares.

Oleg Prudnikov, another organizer of "The Day of Anger", according to his own words, was detained by militia officers who refused to produce their certificates of employment. "It also happened on September, 12, near the building of District Administration. Then I was taken to Kirov Department of Interior Affairs and handed a "warning about inadmissibility of extremist activities" during the announced action and then they started to intimidate me", activist of "Left Front" movement, Oleg Prudnikov, said. 

Later on, in the same militia department, an unknown man, according to Prudnikov, tried to force him sign a protocol running that Prudnikov "was in a state of drug intoxication".

"After my refusal to sign the protocol I underwent tortures: they were beating me on the head and squeezing out my eyes. And then I was taken to an expertise on alcohol an drug intoxication. After taking my tests they brought me back to Kirov Department of Interior Affairs where an unknown man promised to "kill us if we announce one more meeting in the territory of Kirov district", Prudnikov said and added that he was released from the Department of Interior Affairs at one o'clock a.m.

"We submitted our complaints to Public prosecutor's office and today we got a reply", Vladislav Riazantsev said to a reporter of "Caucasian Knot".

Written statements of Public prosecutor's office run that according to the journal of detentions, neither Riazantsev nor Prudnikov "have been delivered to the militia department".

There is also a statement in these documents that "on September, 12, 2010, militia unit No 3 of the Department of Interior Affairs of Rostov received an order of guarding public order in Sovietov square in connection with a possible unsanctioned public action" but "during the inspection no violations of law were found in the actions of militia personnel of unit No 3 of the Department of Interior Affairs of Rostov-on-Don".

According to Riazantsev and Prudnikov, they had submitted a complaint to Prosecutor's committee of inquiry of Kirov district. "There has been no reply from this law enforcement body though the month's term stipulated by law has already passed", Riazantsev declared.
