Refugees' protest action held in front of Georgian Parliament

Opposition activists and several hundreds of internally displaced persons (forced migrants) held a protest action in front of the Parliament of Georgia. They demanded to stop evicting refugees from the places of their temporary residence in Tbilisi and provide the homeless refugees with housing in the capital.

The action was organized on the initiative of the "National Council" (which unites the Conservative Party, "People's People" and the Movement "United Georgia") and the "Civil League of Refugees".

According to David Malazoniya, one of the leaders of the "Civic League of Refugees", the main demand of the refugees is that the authorities of the country either stop the refugees' eviction process whatsoever, or postpone it until the spring of 2011. Also, the protesters demand to dismiss Koba Subeliani, Minister for Refugees' Matters and Accommodation, and bring him to justice for the death of refugee Nana Pipiya, who had commit self-immolation and died from the burns, the IA "News-Georgia" reports.

The next refugees' protest action is scheduled on Tuesday, December 21, in the same place - in front of the Parliament of Georgia.
