Dubai court changes life sentence of convicts for murdering Sulim Yamadaev for 27 months

Today, the Dubai Court of Appeal has replaced the life imprisonment to figurants in the murder case of Sulim Yamadaev, Hero of Russia and a former commander of the "Vostok" (East) special battalion of the GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff) - the Iranian Makhdi Lorniya and citizens of Tajikistan Maksudzhon Ismatov - for 27 months of imprisonment.

Let us remind you that the attempt on Sulim Yamadaev was committed on March 28, 2008, in Dubai, where he had lived for several months with his wife and children. On April 12, the court in Dubai sentenced Lorniya and Ismatov to life imprisonment (in the UAE it makes 25 years). The prosecutor's office insisted on the capital punishment - death penalty, while the convicts declared their innocence.

Today, the court has appointed a new sentence - three years in prison under the Muslim calendar, according to which a year is nine months. That is, the general term is 27 months.

According to Lorniya's advocate Abdullah Al-Madani, the prisoners have already spent about 21 months in prison; and this term has been included into their term, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
