In Armenia, Raffi Ovannisyan stops his hunger strike

Today, after 16 days of hunger strike, Raffi Ovannisyan, leader of the Armenian oppositional "Heritage" Party stopped his protest action. The politician said that now he intends to continue his struggle for realization of his demands by other methods.

"I stop the hunger strike, but it doesn't mean that I stop my fight; moreover, it will go on with a new impetus. My hunger strike was the first step, a small link in a long chain of actions. We must return to the tribunes," Raffi said addressing the citizens present in Freedom Square.

The leader of the "Heritage" Party said that he made this decision not only because of many appeals to him to stop the hunger strike, but also because of doctors' advice, who said that further abstinence from food may be detrimental for his health.

The clergyman, who was in the square at invitation of "Heritage" Party activists, blessed the end of Ovannisyan's hunger strike.
