Tskhinvali rallies for extension of Kokoity's presidency

Today, the initiative group, advocating for a referendum to decide on extension of the term in office of the incumbent South-Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity, held an action in Tskhinvali in front of the building of the Supreme Court, which was to make its decision on the referendum.

In support of the referendum, the initiative group held a car rally in the streets of South-Oseetian capital. Convoy of 15 cars with South-Ossetian and Russian flags drove through the central streets of Tskhinvali and then returned to the building of the Supreme Court.

However, the Supreme Court did not approve the wording of the second question of the referendum application (Do you agree that one and the same person may hold the post of the President of South Ossetia for three consecutive terms?). The wording of the first question (Do you agree that Ossetian and Russian will be the official languages of South Ossetia?) was found acceptable.

On June 13, the President of South Ossetia said that irrespective of the decision of the Supreme Court he would not run for his third presidential term.

See earlier report: "Eduard Kokoity not to take part in presidential election in South Ossetia".
