Yerevan welcomes exhibition of Salvador Dali's paintings

On July 7 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture the National Gallery of Armenia opened an exhibition called "Dali and the Surrealists".

The exhibition presents about 200 works, including 120 works of Salvador Dali, 40 paintings of other foreign artists-surrealists, and 40 paintings of the Armenian artists adhering to this trend in art.

Arev Samuelyan, the Deputy Minister of Culture, said that the exhibition of surrealists' paintings opens the entire series of cultural events, dedicated to this trend in art, which is scheduled for this summer in Yerevan. According to Ms Samuelyan, the exhibition was made possible thanks to Christine Arzhile, the owner of the Arzhile Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art of Armenia, museums of Paradjanov and Kochar.

Let us note that the exhibited paintings include 120 Salvador Dali's etchings – copper engravings, including "Mythology", "Faust", "Hippies" and other famous series, registered to the golden fund of the XX century engravings. Most of these works were created by Dali in 1934-1973.

The exhibition features 40 works of the Armenian artists inspired by surrealist art, including paintings of Yervand Kochar, Sergey Paradjanov, Akop , Levon Tutundjanyan, and Rudolf Khachatryan. The exhibition runs till October 15.
