Moscow to host presentation of French film about Estemirova's murder

On Friday, July 15, at 6:00 p.m., the new premises of the International Society "Memorial" in Moscow, located at the intersection of Karetny Ryad Street and Sadovoe Ring, a party will be held in memory of human rights defender Natalia Estemirova. The event will see the film "Who killed Natasha?"

Let us remind you that Natalia Estemirova, an employee of the HRC "Memorial", was abducted in Grozny on July 15, 2009, by unknown persons. On the same day her body with gunshot wounds was found in the Nazran District of Ingushetia.

The 65-minute-long film was made by the journalist Milan Solua under the order of the French television. She explored possible motives of Estemirova's murder and the existing system of violence against those who speak out about human rights abuses in Chechnya.

The filming took place in Grozny, Moscow, St Petersburg and London. The film was already screened at the International Film Festival and Forum of Human Rights in Geneva in March this year, where it received the Grand Prix of the World Organization Against Torture. In mid-June it was shown by the French television. Apart from Moscow, it will also be screened by "Memorial" offices in other cities, the HRC "Memorial" reports.

After the show, the discussion will be held, during which the initial results of the independent inquiry into Natalya's murder will be reported. Then, everyone will be given the floor to share their memories about Natalya Estemirova.
