"Supreme Council of Ossetians" asks Eduard Kokoity to stay in president's position

Representatives of the international public movement "Supreme Council of Ossetians" have met Eduard Kokoity, President of the Republic of South Ossetia, and expressed their disagreement with his decision not to run for the third presidential term.

The meeting of the Council members with Mr Kokoity took place in the city of Tskhinvali on August 8. According to Boris Basaev, the head of the Council, his colleagues were against Eduard Kokoity's decision not to run for presidency.

"You've entered the history as the leader of the national-liberation struggle of the Ossetian people. So why this leader cannot stay for one more term and thus contribute to further development of the young nation? It's not just our position, it's the position of the entire nation," the agency "Res" quotes Mr Basaev as saying.

In his turn, Eduard Kokoity said that he would not refute his previous statement and found it impossible to nominate himself to the presidential election for the third time, since it would have violated the Constitution of the Republic, the "Georgia Today" reports.
