In Rostov Region, unidentified persons smashed windows in house and car of editor-in-chief of "Novoshakhtinskaya Pravda"

In the city of Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov Region, two unidentified assailants broke windows on the ground floor of the private house and the car belonging to entrepreneur Alexander Singurov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper named "Novoshakhtinskaya Pravda".

"On September 10, two unidentified persons broke the glasses in the VAZ-2112 car, which belongs to the editor-in-chief of one of the newspapers published in Novoshakhtinsk. Also, the attackers smashed windows of the ground floor of his house; and then disappeared," said today the spokesman of the regional GUMVD (Chief Interior Department) of Russia.

According to his story, a criminal case will be opened under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (deliberate destruction and damage to property) immediately after receiving a certificate about the amount of damage.

According to Mr Singurov, the attack on him was committed with intent to kill because of his publications in the newspaper, the first issue of which appeared two days before the incident.

"I am Chairman of the Union of Entrepreneurs of Novoshakhtinsk. Our priorities are to fight against corruption; and to cover it all in August I registered the newspaper, the first issue of which appeared on Thursday... And on Saturday they attacked me," he said. In his opinion, those mentioned in the paper should be suspected of the assault.

He explained that the attack was committed in the evening when he, his wife, and two children sat down to supper. "The attack was from two sides - they tried to break the door and windows, trying to get in through them," he said, adding that the attackers were crying he had "written up". Besides, according to his story, the offenders were shooting into the air and smashed his car. "We survived through the circumstance that out ground floor is rather high... We hid our children, and I began calling the police loudly - this had probably frightened them," he explained.

When asked about his plans for the future in journalism, Singurov said that he was not scared, but would be even angrier. On September 13, he said, he plans to send the second issue of his newspaper with information about the attack on him on the front page to the printing house, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
