Twenty-five supporters of presidential candidate Tedeev detained in Tskhinvali
Near the house of the family of the oppositional candidate for presidency of South Ossetia, the head coach of the Russia freestyle wrestling national team Djambolat Tedeev, the confrontation of his supporters with OMON (riot police) fighters continues. 25 persons were detained, of them 20 were later arrested, the staff of the candidate's election office reports.
Today, the Tedeev's house was surrounded by OMON and SOBR (a prototype of SWAT – Special Weapons Assault Team) units. The command of the operation is on Khugaev, General Public Prosecutor, and Gasiev, an officer of the MIA (Ministry of Internal Affairs). Mikhail Khanikaev, a member of Tedeev's election office, said that SOBR agents had arrested one of supporters of the head coach of the Russian freestyle wrestling national team. Also, according to his version, the MIA of South Ossetia had issued 15 arrest warrants on supporters of the unregistered candidate, including Tedeev himself. However, the Prosecutor's Office of South Ossetia has refuted any sanction to arrest Tedeev.
"They've already arrested 20 persons and detained five Tedeev's bodyguards and his cars. Nobody knows what they may 'find' there," the "Gazeta.ru" quotes Elina Marzoeva, a representative of the office of the oppositional candidate.
According to her story, now there are about a hundred activists in Tedeev's house; and people continue coming. "They demand from the CEC (Central Election Commission) to reconsider their decision and admit Tedeev to the election," Ms Marzoeva has explained.
In his turn, Eldar Kokoev, Deputy General Public Prosecutor of South Ossetia, has reported that only five persons had been detained; two of them were sentenced to 15 days in jail each.
"We have detained five figurants of the yesterday's incident; they were interrogated. Two of them were sentenced by the court to 15 days of arrest for disorderly conduct, insult of state officials and damage of state property," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Mr Kokoev as saying.
