Lawyer from Astrakhan suspected of inciting his client to suicide

It is reported by the press service of the Investigatory Department for the Astrakhan Region of the ICRF (Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation) that in Astrakhan a lawyer is suspected of a fraud by using his official position and inciting a person to suicide.

According to investigators, the lawyer Dmitry Romanov had extorted, while executing the defence of the citizen, searched on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, 400,000 roubles from his client's relatives, having convinced them of his ability to stop the criminal prosecution.

"The defendant, having understood that Romanov had embezzled the money and that the criminal prosecution against him would not be stopped, in anticipation of his inevitable attraction to criminal responsibility, and being in the state of desperation, committed suicide," the Prosecutor's Office reports.

At present, Romanov is detained, said the website of the ICRF. His position regarding the presented suspicions is still unknown.
