Igor Trunov: policemen in Moscow were to detain Zelimkhan Mazaev, wanted for Sulim Yamadaev's murder

Actions of representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), who failed to detain a person put in the Interpol's wanted lists, represented a clear violation of the Russian law. This was reported by lawyer Igor Trunov and Gennady Gudkov, the State Duma deputy, Colonel of the FSB in reserve, when they commented on the fact that the man, who was put in the wanted lists for Sulim Yamadaev's murder, came to the police to take a pistol found in Moscow, and the police officers failed to detain him.

In Moscow, at the restaurant "Sheikh's treasure" a waiter found a pistol and handed it to the police. And later, several Chechen residents came to the restaurant, stated that they had left the pistol and demanded its immediate return. Zelimkhan Mazaev, who had been put in the international wanted list by the United Arab Emirates for the murder of Sulim Yamadaev, Hero of Russia, came with them. He stated that the pistol belonged to him legally and promised the policemen to bring the necessary documents; however, he never returned.

According to a source in the special services of the Russian Federation, the examination revealed that Zelimkhan Mazaev had not been put in the wanted list and that he temporarily lived in Moscow for a year.

According to Igor Trunov, well-known Moscow lawyer, the police officers were to detain Zelimkhan Mazaev for a period specified by the law and provide information about him to the Russian National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol, operating since 1996.

Gennady Gudkov, the State Duma deputy from the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party, who in 1997-2001 was a member of the advisory council under the director of the FSB, believes that the police officers were to know that Zelimkhan Mazaev had been put in the wanted list.

"Actually, the Interpol is the information structure, and, if someone is put in the wanted list, it transmits the information to specific countries – the Interpol's members. Further, this information is to be included in the file of persons put in the wanted list, and the police officers have to know that," Gennady Gudkov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us note that the official information about the incident at the restaurant and the police station in connection with forgotten pistol is unavailable. The "Caucasian Knot" has sent enquiries about this story to the Moscow GUVD (Chief Interior Department) and the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).
