Armenia's voter lists corrected after publication of opposition newspaper

The list of voters of Armenia contained the name of the late President of the National Academy of Sciences Fadey Sargsyan. The mistake was corrected after noticed by the opposition newspaper "Aikakan Zhamanak" (Armenian Time).

The "Cuacasian Knot" has already reported that the official website of the Armenian Central Election Commission (CEC) posted the voter list for parliamentary elections. The number of citizens eligible to vote for future Deputies of the National Assembly was 2,485,844 people.

The article "Fadey Sargsyan on Voter List" was published on the first page of the "Aikakan Zhamanak" on March 30. The late President of the National Academy of Sciences was found on the voter list of one of the precincts of Constituency No. 10.

"The well-known scientist, President of the National Academy of Sciences Fadey Sargsyan died in January 2010. However, as seen from the list, he's still alive for the Armenian police. In this case, we demand from the police to return our unforgettable figures back to us: King Tigran the Great, the author of the Armenian alphabet Mesrop Mashtots, writers Petros Duryan and Ovanes Tumanyan, and others," the paper wrote ironically.

The press service of the Armenian police has issued a statement asking for pardon from relatives of Fadey Sargsyan for the mistake made, writes the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the statement, the mistake was made by a careless employee of the passport service, who has been dismissed; and the mistake was corrected.
