Journalist Gereev beaten in Dagestan links the incident with his work

Ruslan Gereev, Deputy Director General and the editor of the politics section of the newspaper "Nastoyascheye Vremya" (Present Time), who was attacked by unidentified persons on April 24, says that the investigatory committee has not yet initiated a case on his beating. The journalist is sure that the attack on him was directly related to his professional work.

According to Ruslan Gereev, the chief of criminal investigation has contacted him to clarify the circumstances of what happened: "I was also contacted by officials of the investigatory committee; however, so far, as they say, the pre-inquiry check is underway. I can't name the article under which the action will be brought," said the journalist.

Ruslan Gereev has noted that he sees no reason for his beating apart from his work for the weekly "Nastoyascheye Vremya". "I do no business, I have no debts, and I'm in no hostility relations with anyone. The version of robbery is also untenable, since they took away nothing, although I had an iPhone and some money on me. So, I have only one version of the attack - the latest developments in the newspaper," Ruslan Gereev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
