The Supreme Court of North Ossetia altered the sentence to Vadim Vazagov in whose house a gas bottle exploded during a wedding last year, nine persons perished and 50 got injured as a result. The sentence was altered by the court for a conditional one.

Public prosecutor demanded a penalty for the defendant in form of 3,5 years of custody conditionally. On March, 15, Sovietsky district court of Vladikavkaz sentenced Vazagov to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony settlement without depriving of a right to hold certain offices or do certain kinds of work.

Press service of the Supreme Court of North Ossetia reported that the sufferers’ cassational appeal against the verdict on Vazagov’s case was tried today.

The Cassation Board of the Supreme Court of the republic under the chairmanship of judge Tebiev prescribed a conditional punishment according to clause 73 (suspended sentence) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment on probation of two years.

Vazagov was accused of violation of preventive fire-fighting regulations which caused involuntary death of two or more persons. The sufferers asked the court not to punish the person responsible for the tragedy.

Vazagov acknowledged his guilt in full. He has a certificate of good conduct and no previous convictions, therefore the defense appealed to the court for a minimum non-custodial penalty.
