At least six double terror acts committed in Northern Caucasus since start of 2011

The double explosion in Makhachkala at night on May 3 was the sixth such incident in Northern Caucasus since the beginning of 2011.

The first explosion was triggered in Makhachkala on May 3 at about 10:20 p.m. Moscow time, the second one – at about 10:40 p.m. Both occurred at the police post "Alaska-30". According to latest reports, 13 people were killed; those two, who were suicide bombers, have not been identified yet.

The previous double terror acts in 2011 and 2012 were committed in the territory of Dagestan and Chechnya.

On January 28, 2012, in Makhachkala, an unidentified person threw a grenade from a passing Lada Priora car near the house in Shamil Avenue. After 15 minutes, a few meters from the grenade explosion, an explosive device planted in a garbage bin was triggered. The bomb was stuffed with striking elements in the form of chopped 12-mm-diameter reinforcement rods and wall plugs. This second explosion caused injuries to two boys; one of them later died.

A double terror act also occurred in Makhachkala at night on September 22, 2011. The first explosion occurred at about 00:35 a.m. on the corner of Ermoshkin and Dakhadaev Streets, the second one – some 15-17 minutes later in the same area – a few hundred meters from the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Both bombs were planted under or near parked cars. The first explosion was a sort of trap. When operative agents arrived to the place, a more powerful bomb was triggered. Then, one policeman was killed and more than 40 people were injured.

On August 30, 2011, explosions in Grozny were committed by three suicide bombers. The first explosion occurred when employees of the patrol and post service tried to detain a suspicious man. Two more suicide bombers blew up when law enforcers arrived on the scene and bystanders gathered. As a result of these explosions, apart from the suicide bombers, nine persons were killed, and at least 21 more were wounded.

On August 21, 2011, explosions occurred at the supermarket "Yastreb" (Hawk) in Akushinsky Avenue, in the outskirts of the capital of Dagestan. The first bomb was triggered at the threshold of the supermarket at 10:10 p.m. The shop measuring 10 by 20 meters was significantly damages. The second bomb was triggered after the arrival of the police at 10:40 p.m. As a result of two explosions, 21 people received wounds and contusions; three of them – children aged three, four and nine years.

On February 14, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., at the village militia division in Gubden, Karabudakhkent District, a female suicide bomber triggered her bomb. The second explosion in the same village occurred at about 10:35 p.m. at the police post. According to the republic's MIA, the bomb was also triggered by a suicide bomber. As a result of these two explosions, two persons were killed and 27 more were wounded in the village.
