Islamic scholar Magomedkhabib Zaurbekov killed in Dagestan, his brother reports

In the evening of June 28, in the village of Kirovaul of the Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, Magomedkhabib Zaurbekov, a well-known republic's Islamic scholar, was shot dead by a sniper shot to his heart. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Shamil Zaurbekov, the brother of the killed man.

"In the evening, Magomedkhabib was at home. Suddenly, there was a single shot, and my brother fell. In the area of his heart, there was a wound entrance hole, and he died soon. Some relatives rushed to the street; however, there was already nobody there," Shamil Zaurbekov said.

According to him, the neighbours saw how immediately after the shot, unidentified armed men in masks jumped into two Priora and Gazel cars, and the cars turned around and went in the direction of the federal highway "Rostov-Makhachkala".

Shamil Zaurbekov has emphasized that the victim was not registered at the police station. After his death, he left his wife and five minor children (the eldest child was nine years old, and the youngest one month old). According to his brother, for a long time, Magomedkhabib Zaurbekov was getting Islamic knowledge outside of Russia, and he studied in Syria and Saudi Arabia.

Shamil Zaurbekov voiced no version on the fact of the crime. He claimed that the killed man had no personal enemies; however, local law enforcement agents watched him as a man, who studied in Arab countries.

Officers from the unit on duty of the OVD (Interior Division) of the Kizilyurt District and from the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they did not have any information regarding the murder of the scholar.
