Relatives of detained Ruslan Ismailov questioned in Dagestan

In Makhachkala, investigators questioned Zhanna Ismailova and Aminat Alieva, the mother and the wife of Ruslan Ismailov, detained on suspicion of carrying firearms. This was reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

According to the HRC "Memorial", lawyer Gadjimurad Izmailov, with whom the parents of Ruslan Ismailov have concluded an agreement, is still not allowed to visit his client.

According to the lawyer, Ruslan Ismailov was severely tortured. He has also stated that he was told at the IVS (temporary detention facility) at the GUVD (City Interior Department) of Makhachkala, that Ruslan Ismailov allegedly waived his services as a lawyer.

"The HRC 'Memorial' has learned that on June 27, 2012, Zhanna Ismailova and Aminat Alieva, the mother and the wife of Ruslan Ismailov, were questioned as witnesses at the Chief Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in the city of Makhachkala. There, at the office of the investigator, who introduced himself as Vadim Edikovich Mukov, they saw Ruslan Ismailov. In her appeal to the HRC 'Memorial', Zhanna Ismailova writes that her son Ruslan was severely beaten, covered with bruises and that he got swollen face and bruises on his forehead," states the press release of the HRC "Memorial" of June 28, received at the address of the "Caucasian Knot" edition office.

According to Zhanna Ismailova, her son "looked depressed, exhausted, and very scared."

"He could not answer his mother's questions, 'since two large men in civilian clothes and the investigator were nearby," emphasized the report of the HRC "Memorial".
