Oganyan: peacemaking unit of Armenia will recommence participation in the mission in Kosovo

Beginning from July, a unit of peacemaking forces of Armenia will recommence participation in the peacemaking mission in Kosovo within the American contingent, Minister of Defense of Armenia Seiran Oganyan reported.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that since the beginning of 2004, 70 peacemakers from Armenia stayed in Kosovo as part of a Greek battalion within the framework on NATO mission KFOR. Since 2008 the number of Armenian "Blue berets" dislocated in the town of Uroshevats in the South of Kosovo was increased up to a company of two platoons (70 people).

At the end of 2011 the Greek party reduced its participation in KFOR operation for financial reasons and the Armenian peacemaking unit was temporarily withdrawn from Kosovo, news.am referring to Samvel Mkrtchyan, Head of Department of arms control and international security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, reports.

The questions of the Armenian unit's participation in KFOR operation were discussed in June, during a meeting NATO - Armenia in Brussels devoted to implementation of the program of individual partnership (IPAP) for 2011.

Armenia expressed readiness to continue its participation in the operation. After return to Kosovo, the Armenian unit will serve within the American battalion, "Mediamax" referring to Minister of Defense of Armenia Seiran Oganyan reports.
