Azerbaijan starts trying 22 persons accused of collaboration with Iranian secret service "Sepah"
Today, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Alovsat Abbasov, has started a preliminary hearing on the case of 22 citizens of Azerbaijan, accused of treason, espionage and other crimes.
The defendants are charged with collaboration with the Iranian secret service "Corps of Islamic Revolutionary Guards" (known as Sepah), commission under its orders of activities against the interests of Azerbaijan, preparation of terror acts against foreign organizations and citizens. The process takes place behind closed doors.
According to a source in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the defendants are accused under the articles of "treason", "spying", "illegal possession of weapons" and others.
After the defence has moved a number of motions, the session announced a break; the hearing will continue on August 29.
