Baku court dismisses complaint of Mamedov, editor-in-chief of "Tolyshi Sado", about inhuman treatment

Today, the Nasimi District Court of Baku, chaired by Judge Amin Mekhtiev, has considered the complaint lodged by the arrested editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh) Gilal Mamedov about his inhuman treatment during arrest and detention.

The complaint contained a request to recognize his inhuman treatment, punish those responsible and to release Mamedov pending investigation from custody. The court dismissed the complaint; and now Mamedov's defence intends to file an appeal complaint.

Today, about 30 activists of political parties and civil society, and intellectuals came to the courtroom aiming to observe the consideration of Mamedov's complaint. Despite the fact that they were initially admitted to the courthouse, later it was decided to hold the session in a tiny basement room, where the access of the public was closed.

"The holding of a court session in the basement is another form of Gilal Mamedov's inhuman treatment; and the court itself violates his rights," said Yalchin Imanov, Gilal's advocate.

Despite the fact that the support group was not admitted to the session, people stood there waiting for the court ruling. The court retired and did not announce the ruling for a long time.
