Policeman, killed in terror act at "Chermen" checkpoint, awarded Hero of Russia
Taimuraz Mamsurov, the leader of North Ossetia, has awarded the title of Hero of Russia to Police Lieutenant Zaur Djibilov, an inspector of the road-and-patrol service, who died on October 23 as a result of the terror act, committed at the checkpoint-105 in the village of Chermen.
Let us remind you that at night of October 23, during the inspection of a passenger car, which drove up to the checkpoint from direction of Nazran, the car driver activated an explosive device, which was in the rear part of the car. As a result of the explosion, Zaur Djibilov died in place, and four of his colleagues were wounded.
On November 9, on the eve of the professional holiday of law enforcers, the deceased policeman was awarded the title of Hero of Russia.
Taimuraz Mamsurov, the leader of North Ossetia, stated that streets, squares, and parks in Beslan and Vladikavkaz would be named after Zaur Djibilov.
Earlier, on October 24, at the funeral of Zaur Djibilov, city residents, staff members of law enforcement bodies and public institutions, who came to say goodbye to the policeman, noted that "at the expense of his life, Zaur had prevented even greater tragedy and saved the lives of his fellow citizens by stopping the suicide bomber at the border checkpoint in the village of Chermen."
"When we realized the magnitude of the heroic deed, which he did, the significance of the act and the price that Zaur paid, I appealed personally to President Vladimir Putin, and he personally approved the decision to award Zaur Djibilov the title of Hero of Russia posthumously," the leader of the republic said.
