Georgia: Bacho Akhalaya faces new charges

Bacho Akhalaya, ex-Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, faces charges of torture. This was reported today by his lawyer David Dekanoidze.

The ex-Minister is charged under Article 143 ("unlawful suppression of freedom") and Article 144 ("torture") of the Criminal Code of Georgia, the "Georgia-Online" reports.

New episode also appeared in the case against Giorgy Kapanadze, Chief of the United Staff of the Armed Forces of Georgia, suspended from his duties for the period of investigation. According to his lawyer Gogita Gabaidze, Giorgy Kapanadze is charged of the fact that he made 19 soldiers jog, the "Trend" reports.

According to Gogita Gabaidze, his client does not admit his guilt on any of the charges, filed against him. The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia plans to make the official statement on the cases against Akhalaya and Kapanadze on November 13, the "Interfax" reports.
