Solo picketer in Moscow urges Russia's MFA to help Syrian Circassians

Today, a solo picket was held at the building of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) with an appeal to Russian authorities to organize urgent evacuation of Circassian compatriots from Syria struck by military conflict to their historical homeland, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The aim of the series of pickets is to draw attention of Russian authorities to the existing problem and to support repatriation of Syrian Circassians to their historical homeland.

Today, the solo picket was held by Zalim Thagalekov, an activist of Kabardino-Balkaria. He expressed his concern for his fellow countrymen and noted that Russian authorities are responsible for fixing the problem.

According to his version, residents of Kabardino-Balkaria are ready to accept "as many compatriots from Syria as necessary."

"People are ready to provide all possible assistance to repatriates, but the authorities do nothing to speed up their return to homeland. You can find information about the warfare in Syria, where Circassians live, and that there are casualties among the civilian population. The conflict has been going on for over a year; and no end to it is yet in sight," said the picketer.

In his opinion, the Russia's MFA should promptly take action on this matter. "It is clear that it's difficult to organize mass resettlement, but shouldn't stay completely indifferent to the existing problem," he said.
