Astrakhan residents report tremors from explosions at "Ashuluk" Range

Liquidation of old ammunition at the "Ashuluk" Training Range causes seismic tremors registered in Astrakhan; in this context many local residents call the rescue hotline, as reported by the press office of the deputy chairman of the regional government on survivability systems and environmental safety.

In was found by employees of the Chief Department for the Astrakhan Region of the Russia's Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) that the above tremors were caused by explosions at the "Ashuluk" Training Range, where old ammunition is liquidated.

The above MfE Department assumes that the Range is violating the approved technology of explosion works; and the explosion committed on November 15 provoked a powerful shock wave, the "Interfax" reports, referring to its source.

Andrei Bobrun, the spokesman of the Western Military District, has stated, in his turn, that the ammunition liquidation works are carried out under the standard regime, without breaking the technology; and residents' complaints have appeared for the first time within quite a long time, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
