"Rospotrebnadzor" plans to open import of Georgian wines to Russia after checking producers
Gennady Onischenko, the head of Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Goods Supervision ("Rospotrebnadzor"), has stated that the delivery of Georgian wines and mineral waters to the Russian market may be resumed after checking the producers.
Let us remind you that the "Rospotrebnadzor" had banned the import of Georgian wines and mineral waters in spring of 2006 because of quality claims and Georgia's use of hazardous pesticides in growing grapes. Prior to the ban on import of "Borjomi" to Russia, this country was the main importer of this mineral water.
According to Mr Onischenko, the "Rospotrebnadzor" has been approached by eight Georgian enterprises that intend to supply wines and mineral waters to Russia; and their documents have been checked. "These eight companies can be the first to resume delivery," said Onischenko.
The "Rospotrebnadzor" is going to make contact with the relevant agencies in Georgia to conduct inspection of production facilities, the "Interfax" reports.
According to David Kirvalidze, Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, the negotiations with the Russian party on return of Georgian wines to Russian market should begin in the near future. He said that they may take from two to three months, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
