First trial on attempt to illegally obtain compensation is over in Krymsk

The Krymsk Court has sentenced a local resident, accused of trying to illegally obtain compensation due to flood victims, to six months of corrective labour. In total, to date, eight such criminal cases have been opened, as reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory.

In October, the Office reported that four residents of Krymsk had submitted untrue information and false documents to the commission on compensations that they had allegedly lost their property and thus received or tried to receive the payments due to the victims of the devastating flood. The Prosecutor's Office has sent four such cases to the court.

So far, one of them has been considered – against a resident of Krymsk, who, according to the Prosecutor's Office, had fraudulently tried to steal 160,000 roubles. By the decision of the court, he was found guilty of an offence under Part 3, Article 30, and Part 1, Article 159, of the Russian Criminal Code (an attempt to cheat), and was sentenced to corrective works for a period of six months.

In total, as of November 16, eight such criminal cases were opened; and five of them had been sent to the court, the website of the Territorial Prosecutor's Office reports.
