ECtHR requests additional materials on riots in Manezh Square

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has requested the protocols of the court session on the first case about mass riots in Manezh Square in December 2010.

In late September, the defence of the convicts under the charges of rioting in Manezh Square filed a complaint to the ECtHR against the sentence passed to the activists of "The Other Russia" Igor Berezyuk, Ruslan Khubaev and Kirill Unchuk.

On October 28, 2011, the court sentenced Igor Berezyuk, Kirill Unchuk, Ruslan Khubaev, Leonid Panin and Alexander Kozevin, the defendants on charges of rioting in Manezh Square, to 2-5.5 years in prison.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about the ECtHR's request from Dmitry Agranovskiy, the lawyer for the defence.

He has added that the ECtHR had also requested other materials at the disposal of the defence and related to the trial, namely, audio records and other documents.

According to the lawyer, the ECtHR is concerned about the procedural aspects of the trial.

"This is a good sign; it means that the ECtHR is carefully studying all the nuances of their trial," said Dmitry Agranovskiy.
