Session of Armenian parliament convened by opposition failed

An extraordinary session of the National Assembly of Armenia, convened by MPs from the "Armenian National Congress" was not held because of lack of quorum.

The parliamentary faction of the oppositional "Armenian National Congress" (ANC) has collected the required number (45) of MPs' signatures to convene the extraordinary session of the National Assembly of the country. MPs from the ruling "Republican Party of Armenia" claimed their unwillingness to take part in such session.

The today's session was attended by 44 MPs, while the quorum required presence of 66 MPs, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Representatives of the ruling "Republican Party" and the faction "Orinats Erkir" (Rule of Law) refused to participate in the extraordinary session of the parliament, at which oppositional MPs were going to offer a discussion of the document on amendments to the electoral legislation.

Let us remind you that the election of the Armenian President is scheduled for February 2013.
