Tkibuli miners hold protest action near administration of Georgian President
Today, workers of the mine named after Dzidziguri of the town of Tkibuli held a protest action in front of the administration of the Georgian President, demanding to provide them with fair working conditions and to prevent the closure of the mine.
The protest action in Tbilisi was attended by about 200 miners. To attract attention to their protest, they took off their helmets and began banging with them against the bars of the presidential administration. The miners demanded to cancel the articles of the Labour Code, which provide for the dismissal of employees without explanation of the reasons, the "Georgia Online" reports.
"Our requirement is not to close the mine, since our existence depends on it we earn money to feed our families," the "Georgia-News" quotes one of the protesters as saying with reference to Georgian TV Channels.
"The mine named after Dzidziguri employs about 380 persons," stated Tamaz Dolaberidze, President of the trade union of workers of metallurgical, mining and chemical industries. He continued: "The responsibility for the suspension of the mine work is to be rested upon David Bezhuashvili, the owner of the company 'Georgian Industrial Group'."
