For the first time, Georgian authorities refused to officially celebrate "Revolution of Roses"

On the ninth anniversary of the "Revolution of Roses", for the first time since 2003, when new government, led by Mikhail Saakashvili, came to power after Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze left his position, Georgia do not hold celebrations.

After the parliamentary elections, held on November 2, 2003, Mikhail Saakashvili together with Zurab Zhvaniya and Nino Burdjanadze, Speaker of the Parliament, organized a demonstration against the Shevardnadze regime. The protest actions, held on November 20-23, 2003, resulted in the bloodless coup d'etat, the so-called "Revolution of Roses", as a result of which President Eduard Shevardnadze left his position.

The information that no official events will be held on the anniversary of the "Revolution of Roses" has been confirmed by the press service of the President of the country, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Despite the lack of official events, a number of Georgian users of the social network "Facebook" published an appeal to gather on November 23 in Revolution of Roses Square and protect "the great achievement of the "Revolution of Roses" sovereign and prosperous Georgia."
