ANC prepares lawsuit to Constitutional Court of Armenia on failure of parliamentary session
The "Armenian National Congress" (ANC) is preparing a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court of Armenia to determine whether the boycott of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly by the parliamentary majority was a violation of the Constitution, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The extraordinary session of the National Assembly of Armenia, convened by the opposition for November 21, was not held because of lack of quorum. About 70 opposition supporters held a protest action in front of the Parliament building, and the oppositional MPs themselves stated that they intended to appeal to the Commission on Ethics.
To appeal to the Constitutional Court, the "Armenian National Congress' (ANC) has to collect the signatures of 27 MPs, and that is one-fifth of the total Parliament. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Levon Zurabyan, the leader of the faction.
At present, lawyers of the faction "Prosperous Armenia" examine the ANC's proposal to appeal to the Constitutional Court.
Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly, has stated that the issue whether the position of the ruling majority is a violation of the Constitution or not is to be decided by the Constitutional Court.
