Moscow city court prolonged the term of arrest to a defendant on the case of Politkovskaya's murder
Moscow city court prolonged the term of arrest to native of Chechnya Rustam Mahmudov accused of murder of Anna Politkovskaya, observer of "Novaya Gazeta", till March, 7.
A representative of investigative bodies gave the court the same proofs of the necessity of keeping Mahmudov in custody as before. In the investigator's opinion, the defendant can flee from justice, destroy physical evidence, bring pressure on the witnesses and sufferers.
In its turn, the defense insisted that there were no reasons for keeping Mahmudov in custody, he had never escaped before and was not planning to do so in the future, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The court granted the investigator's motion prolonging Mahmudov's custody term till March, 7.
It should be reminded that the term of investigation on the case was prolonged till March, 7, either. All the participants of the proceedings are currently studying the materials of the case.
