On November 19-25, 11 persons killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of November 19-25, 2012, at least 16 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of these, 11 persons were killed and 5 wounded. These are the results of calculations of the "Caucasian Knot" based on own materials of the edition and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes 3 suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), 4 power agents, and 4 civilians, all in Dagestan.

One should understand that the above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the number of victims in each of the identified categories of the survey. Not all the data get into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the reliability of statements made by law enforcement bodies.

Attacks on law enforcers

On November 18, in the village of Severny in Khasavyurt (Dagestan), an unidentified man in a VAZ car, presumably, from traumatic weapon shelled a car, driven by a GIBDD (road police) inspector. The policeman was not wounded, and the car got minor damage.

On November 22, in the city of Buinaksk in Dagestan, contract soldier and his cousin were shelled by unidentified men. They died from the wounds.

Special operations and CTO

In the morning of November 20, in the village of Gubden of the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, power agents blocked suspected militants in a private house. A shootout occurred, in which two staff members of the OMON (riot police) "Zubr" (Bison) got wounded. Later, one wounded OMON fighter died. During the armed clash, Taimas Taimasov, a 43-year-old resident of the village was also killed. According to law enforcers, he was put on the federal wanted list and was the leader of the "Gubden" sabotage and terrorist grouping.

On November 21, in the village of Batashyurt of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, power agents blocked a group of suspected militants. A man, suspected of involvement in an armed underground, refused to surrender, and he threw a grenade at police officers and was killed. The killed man was identified: he was Arthur Bekmurzaev, a member of a local armed grouping.

On November 22, at about 04:30 a.m., in Makhachkala in Dagestan, a man, suspected of involvement in IAFs, was killed, when he rendered armed resistance. The killed man was preliminary identified as Said Khiyasov, an active member of IAFs.

On November 22, the village of Gimry of the Untsukul District of Dagestan was blocked by military vehicles and law enforcers registered all persons, who left and entered the village. This was reported by local residents. According to them, in Gimry, a road traffic accident involving military vehicle occurred, and one person died in place. Vyacheslav Gasanov, Chief of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan confirmed the fact of the road traffic accident said that the information about the blocking of the village was false.

Explosions and terror acts

On November 21, in the village of Shamilkala of the Untsukul District, an explosive device detonated near the empty building of the "Vitas Bank". No one suffered, and windows in the building of the financial institution were shattered by the blast wave. At 12:10 a.m., a second explosion occurred in the empty bank building. According to preliminary information, three persons were killed: the owner of the building and two law enforcers, and one person was wounded in the explosion. The detonated improvised explosive devices were activated by radio remote control. One of the websites that support the armed underground explosions called the explosions a "successful subversive action".

Attacks on civilians

On November 18, in the village of Dugulubgei of the Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, unidentified armed persons shelled a VAZ-217230 car, driven by a resident of the city of Baksan. As a result, the driver and his female companion were wounded. According to the MIA, the attempt on the driver and the young woman could be committed by members of IAFs, who by mistake treated the young man as a policeman.

On November 25, in the federal highway "Kavkaz", near the village of Uchkent in the Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, a KamAZ vehicle was shelled from automatic weapons. A driver and a passenger were killed in the shelling. Investigators believe that the attackers by mistake treated the civilian vehicle as the military one.

Detentions

On November 17, in Chechnya, a resident of the city of Grozny, being a member of IAF for six weeks, voluntarily surrendered to the police.

On November 19, in Karachay-Cherkessia, three local residents were detained on suspicion of involvement in illegal armed formation, possession of weapons and preparation of attacks on policemen. According to law enforcers, the detainees the residents of the village of Druzhba of the Prikuban District of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) were members of a religious and extremist grouping.

On November 19, a local resident surrendered to the police station in the city of Khasavyurt. He reported that he rendered assistance to members of armed underground. He also reported that he was aiding the militants since the beginning of this September and till October: he provide them with clothes, food, communication devices of Mikail Akavov, a member of IAF, who was killed in the special operation, held on October 28.

On November 25, a resident of Grozny (Chechnya), who was passing money to members of IAFs, voluntarily surrendered to law enforcers.

Kidnappings

Relatives of Abubakar Udziev, a resident of the village of Gubden of the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, claim that on November 20, he was detained by power agents during the special operation; however, they cannot reveal his whereabouts. Investigators told the relatives of Abubakar Udziev that he escaped after his detention. Officials from the law enforcement agencies state that they know nothing about his whereabouts.

In the evening of November 21, unidentified persons attempted to kidnap Alaudin Aslanov, a resident of Derbent (Dagestan). Five unidentified armed men in masks and black clothes tried to force Alaudin Aslanov in a car. Alaudin Aslanov managed to escape; however, the attackers got his jacket with his passport. The kidnappers did not pursue him and just took his things with them. Officials from the unit on duty of the Derbent OVD (Interior Division) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they knew nothing about the incident.
