Sochi: case of journalist Kravchenko sent to reconsideration

The Tsentralny District Court of Sochi has considered the appeal lodged by Svetlana Kravchenko, a journalist of the "Caucasian Knot" against the verdict on the case of beating Vladimir Krivosheev, a guard of the Private Guarding Enterprise (known as "ChOP") "Region-3". The court has sent the case to reconsideration.

The above Krivosheev went to court asserting that the journalist had beaten him. On December 4, 2012, the court found Ms Kravchenko guilty of beating Krivosheev and fined her by 10,000 roubles. Svetlana did not agree with the ruling and lodged an appeal.

The judge asked whether there was a reconciliation procedure of the parties. Kravchenko said that she would agree to the procedure only if Krivosheev "recognized that he had wanted to blemish the journalist." Krivosheev would not admit that.

The court decided to cancel the verdict of the lower instance and send the case to a new consideration.

"The court saw a number of procedural violations. Since there was no reconciliation procedure, the court decided to cancel the verdict and send the case to reconsideration," Alexander Popkov, Kravchenko's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
